Is your garage full of clutter? If so, know that you are not alone. According to recent research commissioned by Hippo, who help with waste disposal, 56% of homeowners in the UK say they have rooms in their home that are unusable because of clutter. And in addition, 22% of these homeowners also say that the garage is the most problematic area.
But just how can you create a clutter-free garage?
Here are five tips to get your garage looking clean, organised and most importantly clutter-free.
1. Remove excess clutter
Easy to say, not so easy to do but removing items that you don’t really need is the starting point to reducing down what you store in your garage. It goes without saying that if you want a clutter-free garage then you have to get rid of some stuff. Saying that, there are some clever storage solutions out there that will help you make better use of your space such as activity specific racks and metal storage cabinets.
2. Clear the floor
Of course this is linked to point number one but being able to actually see the floor space is a great way to make it feel clutter free. Try storing items on the wall or ceiling rather than the floor using items such as overhead racks, hooks and shelves. You can even upgrade your floor with tiles, paint or resin coatings to give it a more luxurious feel.
3. Categorise your items
What we mean is keeping similar items together so you will always know which section to look in. Group sports kit together, painting supplies and so on. You get the picture.
4. Install a wall mounted storage system
Think modular storage systems like our FlexiPanel wall system or pegboard storage which allow you to store items on the wall and add to it when required. Invest in a system that’s flexible, robust and allows you to customise your space for the best result.
5. Bring in neutral tones for a sense of calm
Wall panel that is white can help to bounce light around the space making it feel larger as well as brighter. Neutral colours will instantly make your space feel more zen-like and bring with it a sense of calm. Combine your white walls and ceiling with a darker flooring option to make the space feel taller than it actually is.
